The How To Of Old...Tiny Waists, Uplifted Bosoms, Exaggerated Behinds!

Paris's Musee des Arts Decoratifs ( beside The Louvre ) currently has exhibition of the long history of devices used to transform the body for " the required waists uplifted bosoms, and exaggerated behinds".

Even iron corsets "corset de fer" were popular late 16th c until early 18th c...
"To widen the hips and uplift the bosom"
Can you imagine??

Whalebone Stays...
"Stays" is a garment worn directly on top of a shirt...from shoulders to hips.

How did they transform to puffy sleeves?

The secret hiding below !

The false bottoms...

Bustles !

Crinolines...

Imagine walking down the aisle in this wedding dress....

Men too were transformed...
Padded stockings...thick calves seen as a sign of virility!

A special treat....dress up available!
We were allowed to step back in time and try on the corsets, crinolines...

Giving you a peep of me in a "stay"...
And when wearing the crinoline...it was like floating, not walking.

Back of my stay...straps looped through hooks...and tug, tug!
