This is a great idea. I love the look of an ornate frame, but I also like this look to truly highlight the piece itself! I love the first image. Bon week-end, Mimi
An unframed painting brings a casual sensibility to a room, I think. I like the juxtapositon of the "formal" antique painting with the casualness of being unframed. I do alot of my own paintings unframed...of course, I'm not French and my subjects are usually abstract! You've given me something to think about, as always, Nance. www.divinedistractions.blogspot.com
Great post to show how sometimes undressed art is the best way to go to feature the art itself. The French seem to know how to do it the best don't they?! I wanted to thank you for taking the time to comment on my Commenting blog post today. You had some really good insight about reading others comments. I too, read other comments on blogs and have come away with some new info or resources. Have a Happy weekend, kathysue
Thank you Kathysue for visiting. I agree, it shows off the art. Sometimes a large landscape or seascape looks best unframed. It gives the image of looking out your window...and that is what awaits.
Yes,comments give the blogger and reader more information.
I am glad you addressed this! I have both in my home....it depends on the wall and environment to decide what it needs. I love the first shot...well done.
Thanks Theresa for endorsing the idea when it works. I have a collection of rooms such as posted...I show clients and hope they will open their minds to the option.
In, at home, Frances Borzello takes the reader thru the evolution of interior paintings from 17thc into 19thc (the boom years of the interior) and beyond.
Filled with intriquing stories and beautiful photographs, it will surely have your next painting, an interior.
Paintings that cool don't need a frame! Love it. xo

ReplyDeleteIt can have a dramatic effect.
I love frameless paintings and think that they add real substance to a room. xv
ReplyDeleteThank you Vicki, You are a talented blogger. I so enjoy your blog, "French Essence".
ReplyDeleteWhat a great life...living between St Remy and London...I envy!
I love frameless paintings when they are big .Frameless paintings depend on the interior.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Melanie, large frameless paintings make quite the statement. I have a 4 ft x 5 ft interior on my wall..and I like it best unframed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting, I love your blog.
I have always been a fan of unframed art, a canvas on its own is plenty! Gorgeous artwork here!
